Upcoming Changes to NCEA

 

What has happened already?

 

  • NCEA Level 1 is optional for schools.
  • Fees for NCEA including Scholarship no longer exist.
  • Only resubmissions that take a student from a Not Achieved to an Achieved grade will be allowed.
  • NCEA Level 1 Subjects have been confirmed for NZC and TMOA.
  • The first Accord Teacher Only Day occurred in November 2020 to help support schools and teachers to understand and implement the changes.
  • The public consultation of the new draft Literacy and Numeracy, and te Reo Matatini and Pāngarau unit standards has been completed.

 

 

What is happening now, or is going to happen in 2021?

 

  • Work is in progress to develop the NCEA Level 1 achievement standards and paerewa paetae, as well as the supporting teaching, learning and assessment materials. 
  • The new draft subject content for NCEA Level 1 is available for public consultation up to April 19.
  • Planning for the second Accord Teacher Only Day in May is underway.  Mana Ōrite mō Te Mātauranga Māori and Strengthening Literacy and Numeracy are the focus areas of the day.

 

 

 

 

What will happen in the near future?

 

 

2022

  • Trialling of the draft ‘new’ Level 1 materials undertaken in selected schools.  Feedback used to revise the materials to become final.
  • Accord Teacher Only Days continue to the end of the year.

 

 

2023

  • Level 1 ‘new’ NCEA achievement standards (NZC) and Paerewa Paetae (TMOA) registered on the NQF and available to use for the first time.
  • The new Literacy and Numeracy Unit Standards become mandatory.
  • Trialling of the draft ‘new’ Level 2 materials undertaken in selected schools.  Feedback used to revise the materials to become final.

 

 

2024

  • Level 2 ‘new’ NCEA achievement standards (NZC) and Paerewa Paetae (TMOA) registered on the NQF and available to use for the first time.
  • Trialling of the draft ‘new’ Level 3 materials undertaken in selected schools.  Feedback used to revise the materials to become final.

 

 

2025

  • Level 3 ‘new’ NCEA achievement standards (NZC) and Paerewa Paetae (TMOA) registered on the NQF and available to use for the first time.
